At the heart of this recording is the city of Venice. Here, for the first time, the Windsbacher Knabenchor joins forces with the brass ensemble bach, blech & blues”. Festive music by Giovanni Gabrieli frame the motets sung by the choir. Gabrieli was composer, Kapellmeister and organist at the Cathedral San Marco, where for many years, he had a young German pupil by the name of Heinrich Schütz. By taking into this programme excerpts from Schütz’s Geistliche Chormusik 1648”, his Musikalische Exequien 1635” and the famous Deutsches Magnificat 1671” the choir has included works from every period in the the composer’s career.
