With their new CD Ein Stück des Weges (“A Part of the Way”), Viva Voce takes the anniversary of the Reformation in 2017 as an opportunity to present a completely revised and newly conceived version of their successful church program “Neue Songs in alten Mauern” (“New songs in ancient walls”). Focusing on the encounter between humans, space and music, Ein Stück des Weges invites the listener to embark upon a journey through musical genres and eras. The terms “light-hearted” and “thought provoking,” “cheerful” and “rich in content,” ‘spiritual” and ‘secular” are not opposites here. Legendary songs by the Beatles equally find their place alongside gospel music and spirituals from the African-American culture. Cover versions of chart hits enjoy the same status as Viva Voce’s own successful compositions. The program – a deliberate contrast to their great staged show with light effects, choreography and entertainment – is the other pillar for the five Franconian musicians David Lugert, Jörg Schwartzmanns, Mateusz Phouthavong, Bastian Hupfer and Heiko Benjes. Even though the “band without instruments” breaks new musical paths, the listener’s expectations of Viva Voce are fulfilled here: the finest musicality, spectacular entertainment, professional singing and a good deal of goosebumps!
