The internationally sought-after Swedish lutenist Magnus Andersson undertakes a musical journey to 16th century Nuremberg with these world-renowned recordings. Songs, dances and chansons, but also intabulations of sacred music by Adolf Blindhamer, Hans Gerle, Hans, Conrad and Melchior Newsidler and Michael Eysertt awaken in the listener the feeling of strolling through the busy streets of the renaissance city; the city where for almost a whole century an impressive amount of books for the lute was published, some with highly virtuosic arrangements from the hands of the most famous composers of the time. For the indexing of the works – some of which were even considered lost until the middle of the 20th century – Andersson worked himself into the special form of German lute tablature, which empowered him to bring these once probably ubiquitous works, some of which had not been heard since the 16th century, back to life and introduce them to the present.
