Johann Sebastian Bach: |St John Passion BWV 245.1 (First version 1724)
Künstler: Thomanerchor Leipzig, Gewandhausorchester, Thomaskantor Andreas Reize
Komponisten: Johann Sebastian Bach

Johann Sebastian Bach performs his St John Passion for the first time on Good Friday 1724. Thomaskantor Andreas Reize is now releasing the world’s first recording of this first version. In accordance with the historical practice, the performers are positioned around the Bach Organ in the Thomaskirche Leipzig. The large organ is used as a continuo instrument and at the same time allows the music to be performed in historical tuning. The Thomanerchor is accompanied by the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and a high-calibre ensemble of soloists. The solo parts for soprano and alto as well as all minor soliloquising roles are performed by young soloists from the Thomanerchor.
