Engelbert Humperdinck |Hansel and Gretel

An aromatic gingerbread house, a twinkly eyed owl, a broken blue and white spotted milk jug, a pyramid of angels and a witch’s burned bottom; Steffen Piontek’s production of the fairy tale opera Hansel and Gretel has been an established part of the Christmas programme for many Chemnitz families for 30 years. The premiere took place on November 9 1991 in the Luxor Palast – and until today this special production has been performed more than 240 times. Now, for the first time, it is also available on DVD and thus finds its way to the viewers’ homes. A musical adventure for young and old, which is ideal as a Christmas gift.
