Until today, none of William Shakespeare’s texts have lost any of their appeal or impact. Time and again, they have inspired artists to the creation of new artworks. With its new recording, the Kammerchor Hannover (Chamber Choir Hanover) and its director Stephan Doormann take the listener on a journey through time: 400 year-old texts are presented here in musical settings from 20th and 21st centuries by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Sven-Eric Johanson, Lars Johan Werle, Nils Lindberg, and Jaakko Mäntyjärvi. In addition, the Kammerchor Hannover (Chamber Choir Hanover) commissioned new choral works from the composers Sven Hagvil (Sweden) and Fabio Nieder (Germany). Recorded on CD for the very first time, these works impressively underline the timelessness and unceasing fascination inherent in Shakespeare’s texts.
