On this disc, the Windsbacher Knabenchor (Windsbach Boys Choir) presents three of Johann Sebastian Bach’s best-known choir cantatas: O ewiges Feuer, o Ursprung der Liebe (BWV 34) is an example of Bach’s practice of parody. Having originally written the cantata for a wedding, he re-used the festive music for Whit Sunday during his time as cantor at St Thomas Leipzig. Wer nur den lieben Gott lässt walten (BWV 93) received its first performance in 1724. Bach set this chorale cantata particularly expressively - already the opening chorus reflects profoundly on the text “In allem Kreuz und Traurigkeit”. The disc’s third cantata Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan (BWV 100) goes back to a 17th-century song by Samuel Rodegast. Johann Sebastian Bach composed this piece with much musical phantasy and variation: from festively jolly major to lamenting, questioning minor. The Windsbacher Knabenchor (Windsbach Boys Choir) is joined by an exceptional ensemble of soloists in this recording: Susanne Winter, Rebecca Martin, Markus Schäfer, and Sebastian Bluth perform alongside the Deutsche Kammer-Virtuosen Berlin. This chamber ensemble was founded from the group of instrumental soloists of the renowned Deutsches Sinfonieorchester Berlin. Karl-Friedrich Beringer conducts this exhilarating recording.
