Duo Pliquett & Gast

Duo Pliquett & Gast
The “Duo Pliquett & Gast” has existed since 1979. From the outset the two musicians have made it their aim to promote the combination of trumpet and organ in performance and in interpretation. Drawing on Late Romantic works, they have consistently added to their repertoire. They have also developed a special interest in original twentieth century works. Numerous compositions have been dedicated to the duo, and world-premiered by them.
Over 200 concerts in Germany and abroad – at the Berliner Festwochen (Berlin Festival Weeks), the Dresdner Musikfestspiele (Dresden Music Festival), and the Festival de Léon, to name but a few – are testimony to the joint success of the two artists. They have made countless radio and CD productions, including many first recordings, and have published their own arrangements for trumpet and organ.
Joachim Pliquett studied under Professor Reinhold Lösch in Mannheim and has held the position of solo trumpeter with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin (German Symphony Orchestra Berlin) since 1982. He is artistic director of the Deutsche Kammer-Virtuosen Berlin (German Chamber Virtuosi Berlin) and the Praetorius Blechbläser-Ensemble Berlin (Praetorius Brass Ensemble Berlin).
Arvid Gast studied organ and church music with Ulrich Bremsteller in Hanover. In 1993 he was appointed Professor of Artistic Organ Interpretation at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Academy of Music and Drama in Leipzig and was named Leipzig university organist.
