Guillermo García Calvo
Guillermo García Calvo was born in Madrid and studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. In 2003 he made his opera conductor debut with Hansel and Gretel at the Schlosstheater Schönbrunn and has been a regular guest at the Wiener Staatsoper since then. In 2011 he made his Spanish operatic debut with Tristan and Isolde at the Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo, and from 2013 he directed the theatre premiere of the Ring cycle works, Das Rheingold, Die Walküre and Siegfried there. Other important conducting engagements in music theatre have taken Guillermo García Calvo to Essen, Berlin, Bucharest, Madrid, Nice, Florence, Palma de Mallorca, Parma and the Opéra National de Paris. He also has an extensive concert repertoire and has worked with renowned international orchestras. Since 2017, he has been General Music Director at the Chemnitz Theatres, and in 2020 he also took up the position of Musical Director at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid.
