Magnus Piontek

Magnus Piontek was born in Bonn and studied conducting and singing in Cologne and Mannheim. While still a student, he became a member of the Nationaltheater Mannheim. From 2016 to 2021 he established himself in Chemnitz singing Wagner’s great bass parts including Gurnemanz in Parsifal, King Heinrich in Lohengrin and Landgrave Hermann in Tannhäuser. During this time, Magnus Piontek also performed the roles of Timur, Sarastro, Rocco and sang the title role in Boito’s Mefistofele. He is a popular guest at the Semperoper Dresden in roles such as a Priest in Moses and Aron, Master of Ceremonies in Doktor Faust and Bartolo in The Marriage of Figaro. The Komische Oper Berlin engaged him as Sarastro in Barrie Kosky’s celebrated production of The Magic Flute for their 2019 Asian tour. Magnus Piontek has been a member of the Staatstheater Kassel since the 2021/22 season and can be seen there performing Doctor in Wozzeck and Hermit in Der Freischütz. In addition to his work in the opera house, he is a sought-after oratorio and concert soloist, and has worked with outstanding ensembles such as the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, the Concerto Köln and the musikFabrik.
