Lena Kutzner studied singing at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media with Carol Richardson-Smith. In 2009 she made her debut as Ännchen at the Braunschweig Classix Festival. This was followed by other engagements in roles such as Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Nancy in Albert Herring, Nicklausse in The Tales of Hoffmann, and the Third Lady and Papagena in The Magic Flute. She has toured Asia and China. In 2011 she sang the role of Anna in the world premiere and CD recording of Andreas Tarkmann’s opera Didos Geheimnis and a year later she won first prize at the International Singing Competition “Adriana Maliponte” in Milan. From 2013 to 2018 she had a permanent engagement in Neustrelitz, where she appeared in roles including Nedda, Angelina, Suzuki, Nancy, Donna Elvira and Hansel. In 2018 she took the title role in in a CD production of Gustav Holst’s chamber opera Savitri. In the 2018/19 season she made her debut at the Staatstheater Cottbus as Donna Elvira and Frau Luna. A year later, she made her first appearance at the Chemnitz Opera as Gerhilde in The Valkyrie. Starting with the 2021/22 season, Lena Kutzner is a member of the Meininger Staatstheater, where she will debut in roles including Senta in The Flying Dutchman and as Elsa in Lohengrin.
