Donata Böcking studied violin, viola and Baroque violin in London and Vienna. Following her studies, she gained orchestral experience as a member of the orchestra academy run by the Münchner Philharmoniker, as well as with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. Between 2006 and 2009, she was principal viola with the Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa in Japan. She lives in Lübeck and is a regular member of several ensembles, covering a wide range of repertoire: from the Baroque period to contemporary works. Böcking is also a member of the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble, and performs with the Gaechinger Cantorey, Ensemble Resonanz, and Collegium Vocale Gent. On the present recording, she plays a viola by Stefan-Peter Greiner (2005) with gut strings. She plays with a classical bow by Rüdiger Pfau (2017).
