Hans Christoph Begemann, born in Hamburg, is a German liedsinger who has been awarded the German Record Critics’ Prize,the “Choc du mois” by Classica in France and “CD of the Month”by Opernwelt for his recordings of lieder by Franz Schubert andWolfgang Rihm.

Begemann made his debut as Wolframvon Eschenbach at the StaatstheaterDarmstadt. He gave guest performancesat the opera houses of Leipzig, Cologne,and Basel. In Helsinki and Amsterdam,he was Jaufré Rudel in Kaija Saariaho’sopera L’Amour de loin. Begemann hassung at renowned festivals such as theKissinger Sommer, the Rheingau MusicFestival, the Lucerne Festival, the HongKong Arts Festival and the LudwigsburgerSchlossfestspiele. His discographyincludes the complete recording of liederby Peter Cornelius and Erwin Schulhoff,the St. Matthew Passion under Enochzu Guttenberg as well as CPO’s series of operas and orchestrallieder.

Since 2007 Hans Christoph Begemann has been teaching asinging class at the Hochschule für Musik in Mainz.
