Psycho-Chor der Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena
We are the FSU Jena Psycho-Chor: 60 enthusiastic singers. Since 2011 we have devoted ourselves to vocal pop as an a cappella ensemble at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena. What began as a mixed bunch of young voices has developed into an established ensemble with its unique musical profile. Every half year we bring fun and entertaining concerts to the stage. In addition, we regularly give joint concerts with other top-class ensembles from the German a cappella scene.
››Psycho-Chor‹‹ was actually just a whimsical working title from when we started (the choir consists of psychologists, hence the name). But it soon developed into a distinctive cultural brand that was easily recognizable and was thus granted protection when the society was established in 2012. Our first project ››takt|los!‹‹ was released in 2015 under this name.
Over the next few years, we gained momentum – and not only in Germany. By invitation of the Studentenwerk Thüringen, we have been part of a large-scale tri-national project of the Weimar Triangle since 2016. In the first year, we hosted choirs from Amiens and Kraków. In October 2017 and April 2020, return visits to France and Poland followed.
In 2018, we had another highlight: a performance on Broadway! At the sold-out Lincoln Center, we stood in front of a 2,800-strong New York audience together with the a cappella arranger Deke Sharon. On this trip, we sang at the invitation of the German Consul General in the headquarters of the United Nations as part of the framework program of the UN General Assembly – a thrilling moment.
