Stuttgarter Hymnus-Chorknaben

The Stuttgart Hymnus Choir Boys are one of the oldest boys choirs in southwest Germany. The most important task of the choir is the care and preservation of sacred music in churches and concert halls and the musical arrangement of church services and concerts. The Stuttgart Hymnus Choir Boys were founded in 1900 on the initiative of the entrepreneur Paul von Lechler. They are supported by the Stuttgart Evangelical Parish and institutionally supported by the City of Stuttgart and the State of Baden-Württemberg. As an ecclesiastical cultural institution, they play a special role in Stuttgart’s musical life and rank among the artistically recognized ensembles of their kind. The choir can be heard in approximately 50 concerts and church services yearly. The repertoire is oriented towards sacred vocal music and includes a cappella works from the early baroque to the present as well as oratorios, passions, and cantatas. The choir regularly collaborates with the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and the Handel’s Company Orchestra for Early Music. Further instrumental partners are the Stuttgart Philharmonic, the ensemble Musica Fiata, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
