Simon Borutzki

Simon Borutzki studied recorder at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main with Prof Michael Schneider and at the Universität der Künste Berlin with Prof Christoph Huntgeburth. At the same time, he also studied classical singing at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” Berlin. Thanks to an in-depth engagement with Early Music, its sources and instruments, his repertoire encompasses almost the entire original literature for recorder. In addition, Borutzki regularly presents rediscoveries and surprising transcriptions of 17th and 18th century music in his own arrangements. The unmediated connection of vocal and instrumental elements in the music of the Baroque era is the performative and artistic approach to which he feels indebted in his double role as recorder player and singer. Borutzki won the Gebrüder Graun Wettbewerb in 2005, and has been a scholar with “Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now” since 2009. In early 2012, he followed an invitation to the Resonanzen Festival at the Konzerthaus Vienna, where he gave his programme “Extravaganza” its debut. Borutzki has performed as a soloist together with the Lautten Compagney Berlin, and is a member of the Renaissance ensemble Schola Stralsundensis.
