Ji Won Song
Born in Seoul, Ji Won Song began studying violin at the Korean National University of Arts at the age of five. When she was twelve, she made her solo debut at the Kennedy Center in New York City and went on to study with David Cerone at the Cleveland Institute of Music in Ohio. She then attended the Curtis Institute of Music, studying with the renowned violinists Ida Kavafian, Shmuel Ashkenasi and Victor Dachenko. She also studied with Donald Weilerstein and Soovin Kim at the New England Conservatory of Music.
She has won first prizes at the International Violin Competition Leopold Mozart in Augsburg, the International Violin Competition in Qingdao and the Isang Yun International Violin Competition in South Korea, and was a prizewinner at the Concours International de Violon Tibor Varga and the International Competition Yehudi Menuhin. Moreover, Song has received many honors, including the Milka Violin Artist Prize.
Ji Won Song gives concerts at the Kennedy Center, the Kimmel Center, the Shanghai Symphony Hall and the Seoul Arts Centre. She performs as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and the Munich Radio Orchestra with conductors such as Rossen Milanov, Augustin Dumay and Nanse Gum.
Ji Won Song is currently taking part in the Artist Diploma Program at the Julliard School with Donald Weilerstein and Ida Kavafian.
