The American journal Early Music Review described his recording of Bach’s six Cello Suites as “one of the best recordings… possibly even of the century… Of the … performances of recent years, it comes closest to Pablo Casals”.
His numerous CDs have been awarded many prizes, including the Cannes Classical Award for the Best CD of the Year. Since 2014, Peter Bruns has been artistic director of the Mendelssohn Kammerorchester Leipzig. He plays a cello by Carlo Tononi Bolognese (Venice 1730) which once belonged to Pablo Casals.
