Bernward Lohr

Fascinated by the beginnings of historically informed performance, Bernward Lohr studied the harpsichord at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover, German studies at the University of Hanover and period keyboard instruments at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg. With his ensemble Musica Alta Ripa he has toured the entire world and has released several award-winning recordings. These include recordings of all solo concertos by Johann Sebastian Bach (Cannes Classical Award), a five-piece cycle of works by Georg Philipp Telemann (Echo Klassik award) and the première recording of Agostino Steffani's opera Orlando Generoso. In 2013, the production of Jean-Marie Leclair's Récréations de musique won the Echo Klassik award. Bernward Lohr is a laureate of the Music Award of Lower Saxony. A conductor, he is deeply committed to all aspects of baroque opera and has staged productions of operas by Francesco Cavalli, Agostino Steffani, Henry Purcell, George Frideric Handel and Claudio Monteverdi. Lohr is a lecturer for harpsichord and continuo playing at the Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg and a professor of historically informed performance at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover.
