Fette Hupe

Fette Hupe
Bigband Fette Hupe (fat horn) is the name of a jazz orchestra, which was founded in 2009 by Timo Warnecke and Jörn Marcussen-Wulff and has since become „one of the most active and popular big bands of Northern Germany‘s jazz scene“ (sonic magazine). With a roster of top musicians from the Hanover jazz scene, the big band has been building a network between Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne and Leipzig. The interplay of the big band tradition and a modern jazz orchestra has been a fertile ground for a unique ensemble: festival concerts, moderated concerts for students, workshops with amateur big bands as well as concerts featuring dance, spoken word, avant-garde music and the visual arts, expand the dimensions of big band jazz. The musicians of Fette Hupe extend the band‘s repertoire with their own compositions and give the orchestra a distinctive profile. In addition, the commission of new pieces sets a creative space for young composers and frequent premières keep the concert programme fresh. In Duke Ellington‘s Sacred Concerts, two other unexpected talents step out of the Fette Hupe Big Band to play decisive roles in the work: Felix Petry, besides playing the baritone saxophone also an experienced tap dancer, is the dancer in David Danced and Gary Winters (trumpet), born in the USA, is an excellent narrator.
