Daniel Johannsen

Daniel Johannsen
Born in Austria in 1978, Tenor Daniel Johannsen is among the most-in-demand Evangelists and Bach performers of his generation. Following his degree in church music, he studied singing with Margit Klaushofer and Robert Holl in Vienna; he received further inspiration in studies with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Nicolai Gedda, and Christa Ludwig, and was awarded prizes at the Bach competition Leipzig, the Schumann competition Zwickau, and the Salzburg Mozart competition. Since his debut in 1998, he has appeared in the great musical hubs of Europe, North America, Japan, and the Near East – in concerts, Lied recitals, and operas from all periods. He has performed under the baton of renowned composers such as Sir Neville Marriner, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Enoch zu Guttenberg, Michael Hofstetter, and Michel Corboz and works with orchestras such as Le Concert des Nations, the Wiener Philharmoniker, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, the Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg, and the Israel Philharmonic. 2010 saw the release of Daniel Johannsen’s recording of Schumann’s Dichterliebe, following on from his first solo disc Tenore & Traverso, which features arias by Johann Sebastian Bach and was awarded the Pasticcio prize by the Austrian broadcasting house ORF. He has given Lied recitals with Graham Johnson at the Schubertiade Israel.
