Matthias Ank

Matthias Ank, who can be heard playing the organ on this CD, was born in Mannheim in 1959. He studied Church Music in Heidelberg, receiving organ tuition from Dallmann. He graduated – “with distinction” in Organ – in 1985. In 1991, after four years as cathedral organist and cantor's assistant in Brunswick, Matthias Ank took up the position of organist and cantor at St. John's Church, Hagen, Westphalia. At the same time, he assumed directorship of the Westphalian chamber choir in Iserlohn. Matthias Ank began working at St Lawrence's in Nuremberg in 1996. There he is responsible for providing the music for the Bishop of Bavaria's church. As Cantor of St Lawrence's, he directs the Bach Choir, the Vocal Ensemble, the Schola, the orchestra and “Lorenz Brass”. In 2000, he was awarded the title of “Director of Church Music”.
