KammerChor Saarbrücken

Founded in 1990 by its director Georg Grün, the KammerChor Saarbrücken rapidly became one of Germany’s outstanding choirs and has an excellent international reputa- tion. This reputation is documented by the choir’s numerous performances at festivals at home and in many European countries, as well as in the USA and Russia. In its recent history, the ensemble has sung at the International Choral Festival in Missoula (USA), at the Chaise-Dieu Festival de musique (France), the Rheingau Musik Festival, the Moselfestspiele and at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden. The choir’s many radio broadcasts and critically acclaimed CD productions give evidence to its great artistic potential. For example, the ensemble was awarded the renowned Midem Classical Award at Cannes for its CD production of Michael Haydn’s Requiem in b-flat major. In the first 15 years of its existence, the Kammerchor Saarbrücken won a number of important international choir competitions, among them the Deutscher Chorwettbewerb at Regensburg in 1998. The choir performs works from all periods of music history. In its performances of Early Music the choir collaborates with renowned ensembles and soloists who are dedicated to an historically informed performance practice, for choral symphonic works it teams up with acclaimed orchestras such as the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie. A further focus in the choir’s work are debut performances of compositions which are written especially for the ensemble.
