Ute Engelke’s youth was filled with singing andpiano-playing. Her favourite ritual as a child: singingthrough all songs of her children’s choir beforegoing to bed. Nevertheless, it was not before completingher training as industrial clerk that shedecided to make music her profession. Today, sheis well-known as an inspired performer of concertand oratorio repertoires and as a passionate vocalteacher.She studied church musicat the Fachhochschule für Kirchenmusikin Görlitz (singing with Anke-ElisabethBertram) and the Universität der Künste Berlin(singing with Adele Stolte), completing her studies with an A-diploma,. The decisive inspirationthat made her choose a career in singing came withUwe Gronostay, her professor of choral conductingin Berlin. Excited and moved by her voice andmusical sensitivity, he recommended that she go onto study Baroque singing with Peter Kooy at theSweelinck Conservatorium Amsterdam. Inrecent years, Charlotte Lehmann has become a crucialinspiration for her work.In addition to her concert engagements as a soloist,Ute Engelke regularly sings with the SWRVokalensemble under the direction of conductorssuch as Marcus Creed, Frieder Bernius, MortenSchuldt-Jensen, Jörg Straube, and Hermann Max.Her work is well documented on numerous CDsand broadcasts.Ute Engelke is active as a vocal coach for theLandesjugendchor Niedersachsen, and is a memberof the Bundesverband Deutscher Gesangspädagogen.In recognition of her exceptional services to churchmusic, Ute Engelke was awarded the Kirchenmusikpreisdes Stadtkirchenverbandes Hannoverin 2004.www.ute-engelke.de
