Junges Ensemble Berlin

The Chor des Jungen Ensembles Berlin e. V. stands for young, inspired choral singing in Berlin. Their enjoyment of challenging choral repertoires and their joint endeavour for high-quality artistry and musical diversity unites the roughly eighty pupils, students, and young professionals. Since 1998, the choir has been directed by Frank Markowitsch, and since 2009 it has been included in the funding programme run by the Berlin Senate. In addition to its concerts in Germany, the choir regularly sings abroad. Most recently, the singers provided the musical setting for a Sunday Mass at the Cathedral of Notre Dame at Paris. The ensemble sees itself as a cultural ambassador, and in 2010 staged the project ‘Images of Light’ in Berlin and Istanbul in cooperation with a Berlin school choir. The choir also provided the choral backdrop for Barbra Streisand’s Berlin concert in 2013, and in the same year the choir successfully qualified for the Deutscher Chorwettbewerb.
