Susanne Winter

Susanne Winter
Susanne Winter was born in Berlin. She studied at San José University in California under Jeanne Garson, and then continued her singing training under Rita Loving at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. In 1993 she entered the solo singers' section of the German national competition for young musicians, “Jugend musiziert”, and won first prize. After that she was a guest student at the Richard Strauss Conservatoire in Munich, under Julie Kaufmann, where she appeared in various different opera productions: as the Queen of the Night in Mozart's “Magic Flute” and as Madame Herz in his “Impresario”.After completing her studies, Susanne Winter devoted herself principally to sacred music and to Lieder, the two fields of music of which she is particularly fond and in which she has now built up a broad repertoire. As an oratorio singer, she has undertaken concert tours all over Europe and South America, where she could be heard in the Teatro Colòn in Buenos Aires. Close collaboration in the oratorio field has established a bond between her and the Windsbacher Knabenchor. This soprano has sung at various festivals including Musik Meran, the Mozart Festival in Würzburg, and the Vienna Festival Weeks. She also makes regular guest appearances on the opera stage and has sung leading roles in operas by Pergolesi, Salieri and Verdi, and recently made her debut as Konstanze in Mozart's “The Escape from the Seraglio”.
