Stephan-König-Trio

Stephan-König-Trio
The Stephan-König-Trio was founded in 1987. In the early years, the ensemble mainly performed works by its pianist Stephan König, who was then accompanied by Thomas Moritz (double bass) and Jörg Steffens (drum set). Since then, the ensemble’s members have changed a number of times – depending on the specific needs of each project, Stephan “Grete” Weiser or Tom Götze could be heard playing the bass, and Wolfram Dix or Frank-Endrik Moll could be seen performing at the drum set. For Bach in Jazz, Stephan König is joined on the present disc by Thomas Stahr (double bass) and Wieland Götze (drum set). Stephan König studied piano, composition and conducting at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” in Leipzig, and has since then been a freelance musician. In addition to his teaching duties at the Leipzig Hochschule, he regularly gives guest performances with renowned orchestras and at prominent venues; he has been part of numerous CD, radio, and television productions. He has toured China, Central America, and through all of Europe. Since 1998, he has been the director of the LeipJAZZig-Orkester which was founded by him, and since 2007 he has also been head of the chamber orchestra “artentfaltung”. Thomas Stahr took up the bass guitar with 14. Later, he studied classical double bass at the Hochschule für Musik at Cologne with Prof. Wolfgang Güttler and others. He was engaged as a teacher of bass guitar and jazz double bass at the Rheinische Musikschule in Cologne between 1987 and 1991. Since 1991, he has been a member of the Gewandhausorchester and has been teaching bass guitar and jazz double bass at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” in Leipzig since 1995. Wieland Götze studied at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt at Weimar. Since 1994, he has been a member of many rock and jazz ensembles, and has also been involved in the production of musicals. In addition, Götze has participated in a number of CD recordings. Further information can be found at www.st-koenig.de and www.wielandgoetze.com.
