Jean-Sébastien Stengel

Jean-Sébastian Stengel was born in Frankfurt am Main. Here, he received his first singing lessons with Ralph Mangelsdorff. After his graduation from school, he joined the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis at Basel, in order to be taught by Richard Levitt.Between 2000 and 2006 Stengel then studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover with Ralf Popken. Master classes with Paul Esswood, René Jacobs, Nigel Rogers and Jill Feldman complement his musical education. The renowned tenor’s repertoire ranges from worldly and sacred music from the Renaissance to contemporary works. In 2004, with the Concerto Köln under the baton of Nicholas McGegan, he gave his stage debut as Mago and Araldo in Händel’s opera Rinaldo at the Internationale Händel-Festspiele Göttingen. He has already performed as the Swan in Orff’s Carmina Burana in a number of Concerts with the Mädchenchor Hannover and the Knabenchor Hannover under the batons of their respective conductors, Gudrun Schröfel and Jörg Breiding.
