Gudrun Schröfel

After completing her studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hanover, Gudrun Schröfel embarked upon a concert and oratorio career. But conducting had always been one of her artistic focal points. In 1985 she took on a professorship in Music Education at the Folkwang-Hochschule Essen and in 1989 she moved to the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hanover. She has held the position of Vice President of the institution since 1997.Gudrun Schröfel has always believed in providing professional level training for children and adolescents: Her ensembles, which are founded on intensive individual work with the young voices in her care, repeatedly present unique interpretations of works representing the entire stylistic spectrum. Many works by renowned composer’s were specially written for the Hanover Girls’ Choir and also had their debut performances with the same.Gudrun Schröfel has won many international competitions with this celebrated ensemble, and together they have been invited to perform all over the world. For her exceptional commitment Gudrun Schröfel was rewarded the Niedersächsische Kunstpreis in 1998 and the Verdienstkreuz Erster Klasse des Niedersächsischen Verdienstordens in 2004.
