Bernhard Schneider

Born in Essen in 1967, the tenor Bernhard Schneider studied with Prof. Hans Sotin at the Musikhochschule in Cologne, where he graduated with distinction. After passing his performer’s examination, he accepted his first operatic engagement at the Opernstudio of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf-Duisburg in 1991. Four years later, he accepted an engagement as a lyric tenor at the Schillertheater Gelsenkirchen- Wuppertal and since the 1998/99 season has been a member of the Stuttgart State Opera ensemble. With an extensive concert repertoire comprising both Baroque and modern works, Bernhard Schneider makes frequent guest appearances and since 1996 has been a regular visitor to Bayreuth. He has been involved in numerous CD recordings and radio broadcasts for the HR, BR and SWR radio stations and has helped popularize the Romantic oratorios of Carl Loewe and Albert Lortzing as well as operettas by Heinrich Berté, Jacques Offenbach and Joseph Lanner.
