Thomas Rothert

Thomas Rothert was born in 1947 and studied at the Academy of Music in Detmold under Helmut Tramnitz (organ) and Hans-Martin Theopold (piano), among others. After graduating in church music, he decided to study organ and organ improvisation under Lionel Rogg at the Conservatoire de musique in Geneva and besides attending master classes with Michael Schneider, Anton Heiller, L. F. Tagliavini, J. J. Grunenwald, Z. Szathmary and Gerd Zacher, had private lessons with Jean Langlais as well. Thomas Rothert was titular organist at the church of Notre-Damedes Grâces in Geneva and in 1973 was appointed assistant lecturer at the Institute of Church Music at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. He has taught organ, organ improvisation and church music at the former Fachakademie – now the Hochschule – für Evangelische Kirchenmusik in Bayreuth since 1975, has been Director of Church Music since 1990 and a fully accredited organ appraiser since 1991.
