Jürgen Puschbeck was born in 1960 in Schneeburg, Germany. By the age of five, he was singing in the Kurrende (a type of strolling choir) of his hometown church and by 1970 was accepted as a member of the Kreuz Choir in Dresden. In addition to his choral musical education, he studied organ with Kantor Ludwig at the Christ Church in Dresden-Stehlen. From 1977-1979 he held the position of choir prefect and during that time took over assisting in the directing of Sunday and Vespers services. From 1981-1986 he studied choral conducting with Professor Gert Frischmuth at the Musikhochschule, Franz Liszt in Weimar. In 1983 he assumed the directing responsibilities for the Jena Philharmonic Boys Choir, which in 1985 became the Jena Philharmonic Choir.Puschbeck completed his studies in 1986 with a conducting recital in the Schauspielhaus in Berlin. Shortly thereafter he was offered the conductorship of the Jena Philharmonic. He decided to further his education and from 1986-1990, studied orchestral conducting with Prof. Olaf Koch in Halle. In 1987, Puschbeck assumed the directorship of the Jena Madrigal Circle (the Chamber Choir of the Jena Philharmonic).In addition to rehearsals and productions with the Leipzig and Berlin Rundfunk Choirs, he has also led numerous concert tours with choirs from Jena, Weimar and Stuttgart to a number of European cities, as well as in Japan, Australia and America. In the Fall of 1997 he became the artistic director of the Chamber Choir of the Musikhochschule, Franz Liszt. In July of the following year he became professor of Choral Conducting there, where he continues to teach and conduct.
