NDR Radiophilharmonie

Since its establishment in 1950, the NDR Radiophilharmonie has been one of the most renowned orchestras in Germany’s musical life; its distinct profile is shaped through its exceptionally broad repertoire. The NDR Radiophilharmonie performs numerous series of different subscription concerts in Hanover. In the 2005/2006 season two entirely new series were launched: In its series of “Ring Barock” the Radiophilharmonie works in conjunction with experts in the field of Early Music on the manifold stylistic and technical problems of a historically informed performance practice. Also, the ensemble performs its own series of concerts under its second name, “NDR Pops Orchestra”. Unconventional programmes have, since then, also lured inexperienced listeners of classical music into their concert hall. In addition, the orchestra regularly performs at the major German music festivals and performs concert tours at home and abroad. Its most recent tours took the orchestra to Spain, Brazil and Japan. In 1998 Eiji Oue followed in the footsteps of Willy Steiner, who had conducted the Radiophilharmonie for an amazing 25 years, Bernhard Klee, Zdenek Macal and Aldo Ceccato as the ensemble’s principal conductor; it was the beginning of an extraordinarily successful liaison.
