Musicalische Compagney
The Musicalische Compagney is an international ensemble for Early Music based in Berlin. It began its activities in 1972 and has been performing under its by now well-known title since 1974. “An attempt at the true way of playing historical music“ is the ensemble’s slogan for combining a historically truthful presentation of sound, words and affection in a contemporary manner. To realise this aim, they analyse relevant sources and deal with problems concerning aesthetics, rhetoric, and expressiveness in an experimental fashion.
In addition to instrumental music, the vocal and sacred music of the 17th century, especially the works of Heinrich Schütz, are at the centre of the ensemble’s repertoire. The choice of its repertoire, its characteristic presentation and from its idea and realisation of “old” music as “new” music, has given the ensemble its particular distinctiveness.
Many concerts at home and abroad, performances at international festivals as well as television appearances and also a number of radio and CD recordings are witnesses to the ensemble’s reputation as a distinguished ensemble of specialists.
