Johanna Maier

Johanna Maier received her first harp tuition at the early age of eight. After taking her A-levels, she began her studies for a performance diploma with Prof. Helga Storck at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, which she completed with distinction in 2002. At the age of fifteen, she was an award-winner at the national level of “Jugend musiziert”, and in 1996 she received a first prize in her age category at the first competition of the Deutsche Harfenvereinigung. As a soloist in the concert series “Focus on Youth”, aimed at young harpists, Maier was highly applauded at the seventh International World Harp Congress in Prague in 1999. In 2000, she was awarded a second prize at the international competition held by the Franz-Josef-Reinl foundation at Vienna. During her studies, she attended master classes, for example with Prof. Isabelle Moretti in Paris and Prof. Daphne Boden in London. Since the 2001/02 season, she has been engaged as principal harp at the Philharmonisches Orchester der Hansestadt Lübeck. In addition to her professional engagements, she continued her studies with Prof. Helga Storck, and graduated with an additional diploma of excellency in 2007. In recent years, she has performed as part of renowned symphony orchestras and at famous opera houses such as at Munich, Hamburg, and Vienna.
