Torsten Laux
Torsten Laux began his studies at the Academy of Music in Frankfurt/Main in 1985, gaining a first degree in church music (organ repertoire performance with Professor Hans-Joachim Bartsch, improvisation with Professor Reinhardt Menger and Director of Church Music Gerd Wachowski) and going on to receive his performer's diploma on the organ (artistic coaching by Professor Edgar Krapp). From 1994 to 1996 he attended the Academy of Music in Saarbrücken where he studied under Professor Daniel Roth (Paris) and Professor Bernhard Haas (Stuttgart).
Torsten Laux has won prizes at a number of famous international organ competitions (the Johann Pachelbel Prize at the Nuremberg International Organ Week, the Georg Böhm Organ Competition in Lüneburg, the Gottfried Silbermann Organ Competition in Freiberg/Saxony, the international competition “Orgelland Thüringen”, the Odense international organ competition in Denmark, and the Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck Competition in Gdansk). In Biarritz (France), he won all three prizes in the Improvisation category (“Prix André Marchal”, the Special Prize and the Audience Prize). Concert trips have taken Torsten Laux to France, Belgium, England, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Italy, Poland, Hungary, and Rumania. He runs organ courses in improvisation and interpretation both at home and abroad.
Torsten Laux was cantor and organist at the Dankeskirche in Bad Nauheim. He has also taught organ improvisation at the Academy of Church Music in Bayreuth from 1993 onwards. In the summer of 1999, he took up a position as organ professor at the Robert Schumann Academy in Düsseldorf.
