Ullrich B\u00f6hme, organist at St Thomas Leipzig, has chosen three works by Marcel Dupr\u00e9, C\u00e9sar Franck, and Eug\u00e8ne Gigout to present the church\u2019s reconstructed Sauer organ; all three pieces subtly underline the instrument\u2019s French characteristics. Max Reger\u2019s Fantasie und Fuge in d minor, op. 135b, shares a very intimate relationship with the organ at St Thomas and with its organist Karl Straube. Franz Liszt\u2019s grand variation cycle in f minor based on Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen also has a special link with St Thomas: it uses a cantata which was performed by Johann Sebastian Bach at this very place. With this Super-Audio-CD, organist Ullrich B\u00f6hme presents the first recording produced at the Sauer organ after its restoration.
