The debut CD recorded by the Daarler Vocal Consort centres around the three keywords love, light, and dark. The recorded works are written in different languages and styles, date from different periods, and were composed for a diverse spectrum of occasions, ranging from the classical love song and hymns to light, to Tzvi Avni’s elegy that reflects on the murder of the Israeli prime minister Yitzhak Rabin. Georg Grün dedicated his 2009 composition “Marantha” – a cycle for eight voices – as well as his “Liebeslied” to the Daarler Vocal Consort. Both works can be heard on this disc, which received the Excellentia Award given out by the classical music magazine Pizzicato. The magazine attests to the ensemble a pure intonation, a sound blending of voices, and a thoroughly honest musical expression. Works by Will Todd or Georg Grün, for example, are sung with the same naturalness and the same mastery as those by Maurice Duruflé, Max Reger, or Claude le Jeune, Pizzicato joyously notes.
