Folk songs awaken memories and open up a view of a time when stories were passed on in song. Many appreciate their catchy melodies, others find them outdated. Folk songs have an incomparable beauty and their simplicity gets to the heart of the matter. With “Songs and Tales”, the Vocoder Ensemble is sending out a clear signal for the rediscovery of this musical heritage. At the German Choir Competition in Leipzig in 2023, it was recognized for special achievements and received the special prize from the label Rondeau Production, which made the production of this album possible. The ensemble members are convinced that folk songs preserve instructive stories and can still be an important part of educating the heart today. The album combines familiar German folk songs with contemporary arrangements and international tunes from Scotland, Ireland, Finland and Georgia. Well-known songs such as “Die Gedanken sind frei”, “Ein Jäger längs dem Weiher ging” or “Die Forelle” appear in a new light, while the worldwide melodies broaden the horizon and show how music combines cultural identity and remembered storytelling. “Songs and Tales” invites you to rediscover the power of these traditional melodies and listen to the stories they have carried for generations.
