The Sauer-Organ at |St Thomas Leipzig
Ullrich Böhme, Organist at St Thomas
Künstler: Münchner Frauenchor, Katrin Wende-Ehmer, Monika Baumgartner, Peter Wittrich

Ullrich Böhme, organist at St Thomas Leipzig, has chosen three works by Marcel Dupré, César Franck, and Eugène Gigout to present the church’s reconstructed Sauer organ; all three pieces subtly underline the instrument’s French characteristics. Max Reger’s Fantasie und Fuge in d minor, op. 135b, shares a very intimate relationship with the organ at St Thomas and with its organist Karl Straube. Franz Liszt’s grand variation cycle in f minor based on Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen also has a special link with St Thomas: it uses a cantata which was performed by Johann Sebastian Bach at this very place. With this Super-Audio-CD, organist Ullrich Böhme presents the first recording produced at the Sauer organ after its restoration. Now, the organ splendidly resounds in its original Romantic specification of 1908.
