Mieczyslaw Weinberg

With Mieczyslaw Weinberg the Philharmonic Orchestra Altenburg Gera, together with the concert choir Rutheneum and the pianist and proven Weinberg specialist Elisaveta Blumina, is dedicated to a composer of the last century, whose music is often overshadowed by the overwhelming Dimitri Shostakovich. Weinberg’s sixth of more than 20 symphonies captivates with its enormous musical richness, which General Music Director Laurent Wagner is able to uncover in an outstanding manner. In contrast to this are the almost playfully easy Easy Pieces for Solo Piano op. 34 from 1946, which as short character pieces fit wonderfully into a kind of “diary collection”. An outstanding recording that more than appropriately recognizes one of the most underrated composers of the last century.
