World premiere recordings of Luigi Cherubini’s music featuring the Kammerchor der Frauenkirche Dresden under the direction of Matthias Grünert The recording in the Frauenkirche, commemorating the destruction of Dresden in 1945, presents largely unknown works by Luigi Cherubini (1760-1842). The three compositions – Cum invocarem, Qui habitat and Nunc dimittis – written by Cherubini in Italy during his youth, remained dormant and undiscovered in the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris for many years until Michael Pauser recently discovered them during his research work. After more than 200 years, these magnificent works are now being performed again. The Chamber Choir of the Dresden Frauenkirche has succeeded in giving a memorable and impressive concert here. Matthias Grünert, together with his chamber choir and instrumental ensemble, interprets the music of Cherubini in the phenomenal acoustics of the Frauenkirche with balance, sonority and enthusiasm. The choice of soloists is excellent, featuring Sibylla Rubens (soprano), Britta Schwarz (alto), Tobias Hunger (tenor) and Tobias Berndt (bass). This recording is a must for all Cherubini fans – and also for those who haven’t yet discovered him!
