Robert ditches Ernestine to be with Clara. Johannes writes Clara love-letters, and Robert is interned in a psychiatric ward. Clara dies. Johannes, 14 years younger than her, might possibly have also had an affair with Hermine, who is yet another 24 years younger. It looks like he didn’t though. Soap opera? Most certainly not! This is serious biography. The travails of love outlined so cheekily above are, in fact, highly emotionalised moments of anyone’s life – and often the source of the profoundest artworks. Mozart, Beethoven, Weber, Clara and Robert Schumann, Liszt, Wagner, and Johannes Brahms are presented on this disc with their love-letters and compositions. The renowned actor Rainer Goernemann and the pianist Sandra Brune join forces to unite in loving and compassionate manner matters which (often) belong together. Goernemann reads from the letters of famous composers (in German).
