Georg Philipp Telemann’s The Death of Jesus narrates the Passion of Christ from an entirely unique perspective: in his poetry, Karl Wilhelm Ramler encounters the Passion in a deeply subjective and evocatively poetic manner. Telemann takes up on this approach, and sets Ramler’s highly emotional text according to the rationalised ideals of the Baroque theory of the affects. With this disc, Gotthold Schwarz and the Bach Consort Leipzig continue their series of historically inspired Telemann recordings.
