Ensemble Thios Omilos

Ensemble Thios Omilos
The Ensemble Thios Omilos was founded in 2002 by members of the Leipzig Thomanerchor and quickly became recognized for their stylistic dedication to the interpretation of sacred music as well as secular literature from the renaissance to modern. From renowned festivals, such as the Leipzig Bachfest, the MDR Summer Music, the music festival in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, the “Kultursommer” in Nordhessen, and the “Musiksommer” in both Schönberg and Quedlinburg, to performances abroad, the singers have been warmly welcomed. The vocal quintet went on tour in 2007 to the People’s Republic of China and in 2010 to Taiwan. In 2013 the group was invited to Rome to perform a concert in honor of the council chairman of the Evangelical Reformed Church visiting the Holy See. In the same year Thios Omilos won first place in the Johannes-Brahms-Competition in Wernigerode, the Anton-Bruckner-Competition in Linz, and the Leipzig Conservatory of Music and Theater Ensemble Competition. In 2013 the group produced a follow up album to their 2011 “Gallus-Hassler-Schein: Contrasts of German Sacred Music around 1600” album by Rondeau Production called “Lebensgebete”. It includes vocal music of the 19th and 20th centuries. Philipp Goldmann and Cornelius Frommelt gained valuable musical experience as prefects of the Thomanerchor before completing secondary school. While Philipp studied both vocal performance and choral conducting at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Leipzig Conservatory of Music, Cornelius Frommelt and Tobias Ay chose other academic paths. Cornelius studied medicine at the University of Leipzig and Tobias completed a degree in Psychology before beginning his vocal performance studies at the Leipzig Conservatory of Music. Manuel Helmeke, who is also an active choral conductor, and Patrick Grahl both study vocal performance in Leipzig. www.thiosomilos.de
