Thilo Wolf-Quintett

Thilo Wolf Quintett
The Thilo Wolf Quintett, made up of Norbert Nagel (soprano, alto and tenor sax., clarinet and flute), Andreas Blüml (guitar), Christian Diener (double-bass, bass guitar), Stephan Eppinger (drums) and Thilo Wolf on piano, has existed in this configuration since 1994. Norbert Nagel, regarded as one of the leading German Big Band saxophonists, is at present playing with the RIAS Big Band, Berlin. Being a multi-instrumentalist, he has a tendency to cross musical boundaries and is able to enjoy professional recognition in both the jazz and the classical world. Christian Diener, a Nuremberger by birth, lived for a long time in the USA where he studied double-bass. He has recorded and toured with many of the jazz greats, such as Billy Cobham, Randy Brecker, and Chuck Loeb. He is one of those musicians who can boast mastery over both the double-bass and the bass guitar. Neither is it easy to pigeon-hole Andreas Blüml (also born in Nuremberg). He is a master of classical guitar, as well as being au fait with all the various different styles of jazz. In 1988, he won 1st Prize at the Festival of Young Musicians held by the Suddeutscher Rundfunk, and in 1994 he received an award for his contribution to culture from the town of Fürth. Stephan Eppinger, born in Reutlingen and since 1990 resident in Munich, “is a percussionist of rare quality” (Suddeutsche Zeitung). He is sought after by artists such as Barbara Dennerlein, Sal Nistico, Ack von Royen, Al Porcino to accompany them, which leads him from one great jazz festival to the next, from London to Montreux.
