Crossover projects are the hallmark of the Sonux Ensemble. Together with the jazz-saxophonist Stefan Kuchel and the Sirius Quartet, the young men’s choir performs contemporary works. The Quartet members describe themselves as artists of improvisation who break out of the conventional vocabulary of sound for a string quartet. Most pieces on this CD were written especially for the Sonux Ensemble, and thus composed to the singers’ strengths. ""We have worked on these pieces together with the composers, and given them their first performances over the course of the last five years. This disc features only world premiere recordings and, literally, unheard of choral music,"" the choir’s director Hans-Joachim Lustig notes.

The works recorded on this CD focus on the topics of light and love. The eponymous poem by Charles Anthony Silvestri that lends its title to the disc frames and connects the two topics. Silvestri wrote the text in 2012, exclusively for this project. Hans-Joachim Lustig came to know the poet through Eric Whitacre, whose Five Hebrew Love Songs are performed here in a presently unique version. The choir director was fortunate also in his cooperation with Paul Mealor: the Welsh composer became famous across the globe through his motet Ubi caritas et amor, which he wrote for the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton at Westminster Abbey on 29 April 2011, and who has also composed the lullaby for newly-born Prince George.

Choir and Organ (May/ June 2014, Philip Reed):

„The formers „I Saw Eternety“ sets Henry Vaughans poem, with the addition of a wind shime and a haunting soprano saxophone ans the results are mesmerising. On the face of it, the saxophone seems an unlikely instrument to work in this context, but with Stefan Kuchel's expressive tone and obvious virtuosity its involvement makes sense in all pieces that feature him.“

International Choral Bulletin (October 1014, T. J. Harper)

„The over-arching vocal charachterisitic of this CD is definded by it's youthful vitality, wich is achieved to great effect under the direction of Mr. Lustig. The choral tone is warm, round and at once sensual and mature. The depth of tone is substantiated in each selection trough a high level of vocal artistry demonstrated by each singer. Mr. Lustig establishes a clear concept of textual understanding and interpretive strenght troughout the CD without degeneration into faux emotionality and gravitas. [...] This early 20th century structure provides a surprisingly honest acoustic wich illuminates the strenght of ensemble as well as the virtuosic partnership witch Stephan Kuchel and the Sirius Quartet.”

Neue Chorzeit (Dezember 2013, Andreas Frese):

Concerti – CD Review (November 2013, Christoph Forsthoff):

Klassik heute – CD Review (21.01.2014, Stefan Pieper):
